Recommendations of the National Committee for the Protection of Animals Used for Scientific Purposes for the Federal Republic of Germany
This web page lists the recommendations of the National Committee (in German) in chronological order.
The recommendations of the National Committee focus on specific questions from the competent authorities and animal welfare committees dealing with the acquisition, breeding, accommodation, care and use of animals in procedures based on the German Animal Welfare Act.
Please note: The recommendations of the National Committee pursuant to § 15a TierSchG in conjunction with § 45 TierSchVersV and in accordance with Art. 49 of Directive 2010/63/EU are aids to standardise the interpretation and application of the Animal Welfare Act in Germany. Any legally binding interpretation of the law is incumbent upon the courts of Germany or the European Court of Justice.
Since November 2021, there is an updated working document on genetically altered animals from the European Commission, which also provides guidance on welfare assessment for the most common genetically altered species and should be primarily used for this purpose due to its topicality:
