Aim

Following the Green Deal and the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS), EU legislation is now oriented towards phasing out and substitute the most harmful chemicals (SVHC) and where possible also the other substances of concern. The main goal of our proposed innovation action RADAR is to design renewable substitutes from local biomass to replace existing SVHC in the surfactants, flame retardant, and can coating market segments. For this, RADAR is utilizing a Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) approach that combines innovative alternative methods (e.g., cell and organoid culture methods, computer models) for hazard and life cycle assessments.

3R Relevance

Promote the transition to non-animal risk assessment of chemicals using human-centered testing and assessment strategies.
